Langston Hughes is represented in Black Voices by the Tales of Simple. Hughes first presents his character Jessie B. Simple in the Forward Who is Simple? In this tommyrot the reader is given its first look at the character Jessie B. Simple who is a black piece of music that represents almost the "anybody or everybody" of black society. Simple is a man who needs to drink, to numb the pain of living life. "Usu completelyy over a glass of beer, he tells me his tales... with a pain in his soul... sometimes as the old blues says... Simple might be laughing to keep from crying" (98, 99). Jessie B. Simple, also known as Simple, has just the right combination of qualities to be Black Americas new spokesman and unsung hero. Simple seems to possess just enough urban humor and cynicism, down-home simplicity, naivete, and "boy-next-door innocence" that Simple easily becomes a character that hard-working, average, prevalent people can relate to. He quickly becomes this sort of Black Every man whose bunions hurt all the time and whose thoughts are relatively kinda simple, yet he is a man who rises above these facts and has a perception that shows the man to have great wisdom and incredible insight. And although he maintains seriousness for all his wisdom to come through his presentation of the facts is given in a humorous manner. In Bop, "Thats why so many white folks do not get their heads beat just for being white. But me --- a cop is liable to grab me almost anytime and beat my head- just for being unilateral " (105). This side to Simple is an example of Hughes attempt to give simple facts or actual truth but instead of telling these things harshly and angrily he tries to sweeten them with a little sarcastic humor. At times, Simple is full of pain. "I have had so many hardships in this life," said Simple, "that it is a oppugn Ill live until I die" (105). This comment by Simple is one of Ramsey 2 many that help portray him as a simple man who has been both mentally and physically broken-down by society but who in Census also says that, in spite of all the hardships he has experienced, he is still here. A lawyer comes to Camp Green Lake looking for Stanley and the warden and the counselors star looking for them. The next day the warden finds them in the hole and tries to take the treasure but it has Stanley?s name on it. The lawyer goes to take Stanley home and he says he will only go if they can take Zero. Since the warden erased Hector?s files the camp gets shutdown and everyone goes back home.

Roughly 10% of calls are potentially serious and get high priority from the police. When not responding to 911 calls, patrol cars patrol in their assigned neighborhoods, referred to as sectors. Importance of Tolerance Essay

In the society that I affirm been raised in, I be possessed of always been taught to be evaluate of others and not pass judgment on their race, culture or religion. I was told to leave my impairment at home. In other societies, has this been the case as well? Through the close analysis and reading of four schoolbooks, I believe that this wasnt the case and that intolerance and detrimental attitudes were common. The four texts that I have chosen that show this is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, The book Thief by Markus Zusak and The Scarlet garner by Nathaniel Hawthorne. These texts have made the themes of intolerance and prejudice apparent and have likewise shown myself and other readers why it is important to have tolerance within a biotic community, without prejudicial attitudes. In Harper Lees To Kill A Mockingbird, Lee explores the importance of tolerance through the character of Miss Maudie.Miss Maudie says, Mockingbirds dont do atom ic number 53 thing but make music for us to enjoy. They dont eat up the great unwasheds gardens, dont nest in corncribs, they dont do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. Thats why its a sin to kill a mockingbird. The Mockingbird is like an innocent person, it doesnt harm anyone. The author wants to show the reader that people who hurt or examine peaceful creatures show their lack of tolerance and compassion for hu human beingity. The Mockingbird is an appropriate symbol for both Tom and Boo, they are both innocent, harmless creatures but have been subjected to false accusations from the community. Miss Maudie, like Atticus, believes that it is essential to accept people as they are. Judging people through prejudice eyes only marginalizes vulnerable individuals, creating a divided community. The close relationship between lack of tolerance and racism is shown by Toms trial.Harper Lee has effectively communicated the intolerance passim the novel, mainly through the people of Maycomb. They believe Tom is guilty, without giving him a second look. This is based on the rophyting of the book which was during the 1940s and as in The Help, white citizens blamed e preci ascertainhing on coloured people, and believed that no one who was coloured would be innocent of crimes. The lack of tolerance and racial division in the community is similar to The Help by Kathryn Stockett, where the importance of tolerance is shown through the character of Skeeter. Skeeter says I am neither thrilled nor disappointed by the news that they mightiness let a coloured maninto Ole Miss, just surprised. Skeeter is a white woman and most women of the time would be offended that a coloured man would even be considered entrance to university.In contrast with To Kill A Mockingbird, Stockett is communicating that coloured people are innocent and there is nothing equipment casualty with them, much to another character Hillys beliefs that they have diseases. The author wants readers to think deep into tolerance in this time and how many coloured people were discriminated on purely because they were different and how White supremacists thought coloured people would hurt or harm them, because they were different and like many did towards Tom and Boo in To Kill A Mockingbird, many did this towards the maids in The Help. These two texts relate as both Harper Lee and Kathryn Stockett have both established in truth intolerant divided communities, and this consequently makes the reader think more than into their society.Do we discriminate against races such as those from Asia because they have trouble speaking English? This text also intensifies the already questions within the readers minds about the people of that time and readers then compare the people in To Kill A Mockingbird and The Help to themselves. are we fully tolerant of the differences in our bicultural environment? The lack of tolerance of individuals is established on not only a fictional level but also a historical level in The disk Thief. Through the narration of expiry, we learn about tolerance and how one character, Hans Hubermann shows his tolerance of others. It is also through Deaths narration that we learn those who are intolerant of the Jewish race, such as the Nazi Party. What is very important to note is that Hans is German, and the Book Thief is set in the period of Nazism, and as history tells us, men such as Hans would despise Jews and believe all of Hitlers anti-Semitism policies, and in general would be very intolerant of those who are not the pure race.Death says In 1933, 90 percentage of Germans showed unflinching support for Adolf Hitler. That leaves ten percent that didnt. Hans Hubermann belonged to that ten percent. The reason Zusak has chosen to use these words is to establish Hans as a character- who he is and how he is tolerant. Hans immediately connects with Miss Maudie and Skeeter as all triad are people who we would expect to be intolerant but all sha re the same value that everyone is the same and should be treated equally. The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne also communicates how important tolerance is within a community.This text centres on a woman who was convicted of adultery, and the text is set in Puritan times. This text is particularly important as it is not relevant to todays society, as the three other texts are. The prejudice and intolerance towards a woman who affiliated adultery would be different in the 21st century. This is shown as the main character Hester Prynne was forced away from her loved ones when her sin came to light.She was a member of as befitted a people amongst whom religion and law were almost identicalthat the mildest and the severest acts of public discipline were alike made venerable and awful. The community of her time was very highly based upon religion which is yet again, much like racism and intolerance, is not as common in todays society. The circumstances that restitution place wit h Hester in the novel are not applicable today. In todays society, we have more of an open society in which one is given more support from their family, government and the community in general when placed in a position such as Hesters. We realize that adultery is a common occurrence and, therefore, the authority does not place punishment upon adulteresses. This connects strongly with the three other texts as people are more accepting of others in todays society- we accept coloured people. The United States president is a coloured man, so we also respect them. We look back at German history and feel remorse for the Jewish race, as we learn they did nothing.They were simply scapegoats. I strongly believe that over the time that the novels are set in, society has changed its values on prejudicial attitudes and as a whole, society is far more tolerant than ever before. After reading my texts and thinking more laterally about them, I strongly believe that todays society has changed in a big way. These four texts have shown readers how society utilize to be and although they are merely fiction, they communicate real ideas. In both To Kill A Mockingbird, we think of America in the 1950s and the racial disparities and the prejudice and intolerance that people such as Boo, Tom and Aibileen would have faced.Markus Zusak takes us straight back to Hitlers autocratic fascist reign in The Book Thief and we learn even more about intolerance attitudes, but also learn about tolerant characters like Hans, and like Miss Maudie in To Kill A Mockingbird. In the final book, The Scarlet Letter, we see yet again how society has changed. We no longer discriminate against people because of their personal choices or who they are. Through these texts, readers havelearnt this and apply it to their real life and are also thankful that we are tolerant. Thankful that we arent killing innocent people, hating on others because of their grate colour or because they simply made a mistake. I am personally glad that society has experienced this change because who knows of what consequences we as a societal whole would be facing today.

A micro biological culture Essay

Introduction The principle of aseptic technique is to prevent the introduction of discarded micro-organisms into your nicety or environment. When micro-organism are in the air, they can enter the culture when the lid is removed. The micro organism ill be culturing is yeast which is a fungi. native yeast cultures are plown in a medium of sugars, nitrogen sources, minerals, and urine. The final product may take the form of dried yeast cells. kingdom Fungi are a group of cells or multi cellular cells which feed direct from absorption of nutrients.Aim During the course of this project I aim to successfully grow a yeast culture and sterilise the equipment that I use. I also hope to gain the skill of aseptic technique and hope to use it in high level science. Safety There are m both guard issues that arise when transaction with chemicals and laboratorys that is why when conducting an experiment in all guard duty aspects need to be thought about before carrying out the experiment o therwise someone could occur contamination or a serious smirch when conducting the experiment.One of the main parts of the human body when carrying out chemical experiments are they malls do to the fact they can easily be modify and are clearly one of the close to delicate exposed parts of the human body. To protect these fragile biological sensors a form of protection is crucial. The most common form of shopping mall protection in the laboratory are the goggles. The goggles appear to be very unattractive to m all people hardly and are often interoperated as a burden and not a safety precaution.The goggles are made out of thick plastic which prevents any liquids entering the eye and causing any harm. Many people who wear concern lenses are under the illusion that there contact lenses will realize as eye protection not realising that the contact lenses are creating a risk of chemicals to become trapped between the lenses and they eye and create extensive eye damage. The gogg les can also protect the eye from objects being hurled across the laboratory by immature minds or by the smashing of glass which would pose pieces flying in all directions.In the case that somebodys eye/eyes came in to contact with chemicals follow through the procedures of emergency eye was immediately Water/eye ancestors should not be directly aimed onto the eyeball, but rather, aimed at the base of the nose. The clothing can help by absorbing as much o the chemical as possible leaving hopefully a minor amount of the chemical to react with the skin. Another way of avoiding contact of chemicals with skin is to use instruments in laboratory such as pipits to transfer chemicals and tongues to handle test tubes etc.Another aspect of safety to consider when dealing with chemicals is diffusion it is a known fact the by inhaling certain chemicals, these chemicals are labelled as toxic chemicals, can cause serious damage with in your body just by inhaling the vapour through the air. One way of preventing this is by pass completion lids on all chemicals after use by closing the lid you are also preventing spillages so if the container is dropped the chemical remains inside the container. Within the laboratory there are frequent spillages thats why it is definitive to try and prevent spillages and knowing what the effect of a spillage is and what to do about it.W hen these spillages occur they can be on minor scale or a disastrous scale. This depends whether the chemical is hazardous or not most lab spillages are on a minor scale and can simply be wiped up by using a damp cloth. With hazardous spillages do not attempt the spillage seek someone qualified to heed to the spillage. A Bunsen burner is very common within a laboratory the importance is safety. As u connects the Bunsen ask sure that the gas shout is secure and tight. When lighting a Bunsen burner use a splint at arms length and make sure the safety flame is on.This is through by closing the air whole located at the bottom of the Bunsen. Make sure that the Bunsen is securely placed on a affectionateness proof mat in the centre of the table the so if the Bunsen tips over it has less of chance of inflicting injury. Before using a Bunsen burner make sure ties are tucked in, long hair is tied back, any lose items of clothing should be tightened or wrapped up and remove all unnecessar y item of clothing e. g. jackets. These safety measures should be met to prevent any risk of fire.In the event of a fire take immediate safety precautions such as turning of the gas as soon as possible and call the teacher our a member of staff, if the fire is on any item of clothing you are wearing which cannot be easily removed stop drop and roll. If the fire is out of your control inform the teacher and move the classroom. The inhaling of a micro biological culture could lead to serious internal injury such as infections that is why it crucial not to open the culture once it has grown and seal it tightly so it will not open without extreme force.
